Every parent dreams of seeing their child laugh, play, and thrive. For me, that dream has always been wrapped in something deeper, the desire to see my youngest son belong. My son, Deshon (Shon), is bright, curious, and full of life. He also has autism, a diagnosis that has reshaped how we navigate the world.
Like any other child, he loves to play. He deserves to explore, climb, and imagine without limits. But far too often, we have walked into play spaces where his differences make him stand out rather than fit in. The noise, the crowds, and the fast-paced energy of neurotypical play environments create more stress than joy - not just for him, but for me too. Watching him struggle to find his place broke my heart. Every parent wants their child to feel welcome, but what happens when the world is not built for them?
That question became the spark behind Precious Gyms Indoor Playground, a sensory-friendly play center where children like my son can feel safe, accepted, and celebrated. This dream goes beyond just creating a play space. It is about creating a community.
I know firsthand how isolating it can feel to parent a neurodivergent child. The resources are limited, the support is scarce, and the journey can sometimes feel lonely. Precious Gyms will not only be a place for children to thrive but also a space where parents can connect with others who understand.
One of my biggest motivations is offering respite care evenings giving parents the gift of time. Time to run errands, spend quality moments with other children, or simply breathe without worry. Because parents like me deserve support, not just survival.
This is not just a business it is a labor of love. Every swing, every sensory room, every quiet corner will be designed with families like mine in mind. Precious Gyms will be a place where children on the spectrum can be themselves without apology. Where they can play freely, make friends, and finally feel like they belong.
